December 2021 and January 2022 saw many highly anticipated films release to much celebration and excitement. The month saw many sequels and some highly anticipated new original ideas come to the big screen.
The Matrix Resurrections
Trying to find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, Mr. Anderson, aka Neo, will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. If he’s learned anything, it’s that choice, while an illusion, is still the only way out of the simulation and the Matrix. Once again audiences are able to dive back into the simulation of the world of the matrix but this time its only directed by one of the Wachowski sisters

Spider-Man: No Way Home
Peter Parker has been outed as Spider-man and now must deal with the consequences of the world knowing his secret. One of the most highly anticipated comic book movies since Avengers: Endgame, No Way Home is sure to hit the mark for all viewers

West Side Story *
The second feature-length remake of Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical of the same name directed by Steven Spielberg was sure to be a hit. Following the story of the young Maria as she struggles with life and the gang conflict that surrounds her between the Sharks and the Jets. With unforgettable musical numbers and classical dance numbers this is a love letter to the orginal musical.

Don’t Look Up
A highly anticipated Netflix film with an incredibly star studded cast, Don’t Look Up is a disaster movie based entirely in realism. With caricatured examples of many well known real life politicians and billionaires, the films heavy use of satire is comically scary in its realistic perception of the general public and their reactions to the world around them including money politics and in relation to Don’t Look Up a large asteroid heading for earth.

Scream
Another follow up to a classic cult favourite, the new Scream film is once again a slasher film following a woman returning to her home town to figure out who has been committing a spree of violent murders. Many of the original cast return to Scream 2021 to bring an end to the tyrannical and fear filled grip of the murderer Ghostface.

Overall December and January tend to have less films released due to the Christmas period but as the year goes on we have many new and exciting films to look forward to in 2022 including, Across The Spiderverse, Black Panther: Wakanda forever, The Batman and many more but it seems this year the big screens will be dominated by comic movies.
